Brazil has sharply cut the annual import quota of 13 kinds of steel products and hence these products are now more likely to face a 25% import tariff.

According to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services of Brazil, the country has made its decision to narrow the annual steel import quota by nearly 250,000 tons from June 2025 to May 2026 in order to protect and support local steel mills. After the cutting of quotas, only about 1.43 million tons of imported steel products could benefit from the lower import tariff (9%-11%).

The measure has been taken mainly due to the country's increasing steel imports so far this year.
