The US imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian imports and a 10% tariff on energy products on March 4 this year.

These measures appear to be contrary to the obligations the US has assumed under the long-standing General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Canada believes that Trump's tariffs may infringe on their rights. Therefore, Canada has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the hope of negotiating the new US tariffs.

In addition, China has also filed a complaint with the WTO because Trump's new tariff rate on China doubled from 10% to 20%.
