Guinea’s bauxite sector delivered a record first quarter in 2025, exporting 48.6 million tons, an increase of 39% compared to the same period a year ago. This surge was driven by strong Chinese demand, particularly from their expanding aluminum production, which grew by 4% in the first five months of this year.

Chinese-backed mining operators like Société Minière de Boké and Chalco spearheaded the volume increase, alongside contributions from new mining companies. Crucially, Guinea nearly doubled its port capacity from five to nine export facilities this year, relieving constraints.

With strong export volumes and ongoing global demand, Guinea’s bauxite sector is expected to have continued growth in 2026.
