JFE Steel, one of the leading steel manufacturers in Japan, announced its plan to install a new electric arc furnace (EAF) at the No. 4 steelmaking shop of its Chiba District facility, with a cost of around 15 billion yen.

The new EAF will be used to produce stainless steel with more scrap uses, an increase of 60%, which will lower CO2 emissions by a maximum of 450,000 tons per year.

The EAF was expected to be put into operation in the second half of the fiscal year which starts in April 2025.
