Russia’s stainless steel imports decrease in Jan

According to statistics from the Russian Special Steel and Alloys Consumers and Suppliers Association (USSA), Russia imported around 35,000 tons of stainless steel in January this year, up by 15.4% compared to the previous month but down by 8.2% from the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports of cold-rolled stainless steel rose by nearly 10%, hot-rolled stainless steel grew by 31%, welded pipes increased by 77%, seamless pipes rose by 18%, and long products increased by 2.5%. Russia’s stainless steel imports from China accounted for the largest proportion.

In 2022, Russia's stainless steel imports dropped by 19.6% year on year to approximately 372,000 tons, due to sanctions imposed on Russia over the country’s invasion of Ukraine.
