Taiwan's industrial sector fears a surge in cheap imports as global trade tensions escalate, particularly with potential oversupply from China facing US tariffs and weakened domestic demand. The Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI), an industry association representing most of Taiwan's manufacturing businesses, is pushing for stronger anti-dumping (AD) measures to protect local industries.

The CNFI's three main recommendations include easing the burden of proof for companies filing AD complaints, respecting the applicant's chosen legal entity for filing, and expediting the application and review processes. They said that Taiwan's average tariff rate is only 1.4%, which makes the industry vulnerable to dumped products.

The Customs Administration acknowledged the industry's concerns, but stressed compliance with WTO rules and required strict data and evidence in AD investigations. They noted that Taiwan's investigation timeline of 5.5 months is comparable to that of major economies. The Ministry of Economic Affairs provides consultation services to support businesses in the application process.
