Taiwan customs data showed a surge in cold-rolled stainless steel imports from Vietnam in the first three quarters of 2024. The number reached 17,377 tons, 31 times the figure in the same period a year ago. This was the first time to have such big Vietnam cold-rolled stainless steel imports.

The main reason for the surge was the thickness of Vietnam's cold-rolled stainless steel can reach up to 8mm while Taiwan's thickest cold-rolled stainless steel is up to 6mm only.

Thicker cold-rolled stainless steel supplies have good demand in the engineering field.

Imports of stainless steel from Vietnam during the period were even more than those from Japan, which drew the market's attention.
