China’s crude stainless steel production grows in Q1

steel production totaled around 8.27 million tons in the first quarter of this year, growing by 4.11% compared to the same period a year ago. Meanwhile, the apparent consumption was around 6.97 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.96%.

During the period, the output of Cr-Ni stainless steel (300 series) accounted for the largest proportion, totaling around 4.17 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 3.4%, and its share fell by 0.37% year on year to 50.43%.

In the first quarter, China’s imports of stainless steel products totaled 460,000 tons, down by 51.2% year on year. The export volume was approximately 967,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.9%.
